A visiting Chinese delegation led by vice-minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China, Guo Yezhou, has resumed talks with political leaders in Kathmandu.

According to Dahal’s secretariat, contemporary politics, especially that has arisen in Nepal after Oli’s move of dissolving the House, the possibility of bringing the two factions of the Nepal Communist Party together and Nepal-China cooperation figured during the talks.
Oli’s decision to dissolve the House of Representatives on December 20 has vertically split the Nepal Communist Party for the formation of which the Chinese are believed to have invested hugely.
Guo is considered a key Chinese leader to have worked immensely to unite Oli’s CPN-UML and Dahal’s Maoist Centre back in May 2018. Months before Oli and Dahal announced the formation of the Nepal Communist Party, Guo was in Kathmandu holding a series of meetings with Nepali communist leaders.
Sources say besides their concern over the unfolding crisis in the Nepal Communist Party, they also want to know a possible political instability could have an effect on Nepal-China ties amid rising geopolitical shifts.
The Chinese delegation is also scheduled to meet Madhav Nepal, the co-chair in the Dahal-led faction of the Nepal Communist Party, and senior leader Jhalanath Khanal.
Since Oli has declared snap polls for April 30 and May 10 after dissolving the House, the Chinese delegation is also enquiring if elections are possible, sources said.
Along with the Dahal-Nepal faction, other major political players in Nepal including the Nepali Congress and Janata Samajbadi Party have launched protests against Oli’s move of House dissolution.
The Chinese delegation is scheduled to meet with Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba and Janata Samajbadi chair Upendra Yadav.
