Such measures would not only help control the spread of the pandemic but also boost credibility in the government, they say.Post Report
As the government starts preparation for the arrangement of the Covid-19 vaccines, the civil society has appealed to the government to maintain transparency in the selection, import and prioritisation of the people receiving the vaccination on time.
Adopting transparent measures in the vaccination process will not just help control the pandemic but will also boost the credibility of the government, they said in a statement issued Thursday.
“Controlling the Covid-19 pandemic will only linger if the current mismanagement and irregularities prevail in the vaccination process,” reads their statement. “Procurement of the vaccination and its management requires a huge amount of the state resources, therefore, it needs careful dealing.”
Among the signatories of the statement are Sushila Karki, former chief justice, Kedar Bhakta Mathema, former Tribhuvan University vice-chancellor, Bimal Koirala, former chief secretary, and Mohna Ansari, former member of the National Human Rights Commission.
They have said that success of the vaccination against the Covid-19 has come as a hope amid the crisis and distress created by the global pandemic. As Nepal needs to import the vaccines from the manufacturing countries, its efficient procurement, import and distribution is very necessary, they have said in the statement.
With an addition of 1,056 new Covid-19 cases on Wednesday, the overall infection tally has reached 244,433 with 12,245 active cases.
Similarly, 1,651 people have lost their lives from Covid-19.
