The premises of Janata Sudarshan Secondary School are littered with liquor bottles every Saturday morning. But it’s not miscreant students who toss these bottles after a bout of weekend revelry. The culprits are the school’s teachers.
According to locals, the teachers have been organising parties and drinking alcohol on the school premises every Friday for the last few months.
“Teachers are supposed to be role models, but what will students learn from teachers who drink on the school premises from mid-day?” Guman Singh BK, a local man, said.
Even the students say that the teachers party in the school every Friday.
“The party starts after classes get over at 12 noon,” said one of the students.
The locals even claimed that once the teachers start drinking, they get into disputes with their colleagues and start verbally abusing each other.
The locals and people’s representatives have requested the teachers to stop their activities several times, but their requests have fallen on deaf ears.
Ward Chairman Rajendra Paudel said that they also have informed the police to take action against the teachers. “When I reached the school on Wednesday, headmaster Meghnath Acharya was found under the influence of alcohol,” said Paudel. “Acharya, along with some teachers, started quarrelling with me when I tried to convince them to stop organising parties on the school premises.”
However, headmaster Acharya is adamant that their parties have disturbed no one, and that the locals are overreacting to minor issues.
Rajeshwor Subedi, chairman of the school management committee, said, “The teachers organise parties to enjoy themselves on public holidays. It will not be repeated again.”
