Locals of Lahan Municipality-4 in Siraha picketed the municipality office on Friday protesting against the pollution created by the garbage disposal practice of the Garbage Management Centre. Agitated protesters with brooms picketed the office until midday. Urmila Devi Pandit, a resident of Lahan-4, said that they are facing problems living in their own homes due to the toxic smell released by the accumulated garbage.
Ramnath Pandit, the ward chairman, said that the locals have been compelled to stage demonstrations due to the rise in environmental pollution.
More than 10 quintals of garbage are collected from the municipal area on a daily basis and they are dumped without being recycled.
