Chitwan police arrested nine people after an improvised explosive device exploded at a ward office in Kailashnagar, Bharatpur Metropolis-5, on Tuesday.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Durgaraj Regmi said that police have arrested nine persons in connection with the incident.
“We are investigating their involvement in the incident,” said DSP Regmi.
Among the arrested people, three are the cadres of the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal, said police. According to the District Police Office in Chitwan, LP gas cylinder was used in the explosion. No
one has taken responsibility
of the explosion so far. However, security officials have claimed that cadres of the Chand led NCP was behind the explosion.
Documents at the ward office were burnt and the building sustained cracks after the explosion. There
was an IED explosion in the same building during the last federal and provincial elections.
Security system heightened
DHANGADHI/KANCHANPUR: Security agencies have heightened the security system in Sudurpaschim after the government decided to ban Chand’s outfit for its involvement in criminal activities. An official in Dhangdhi said the security agencies will arrest Chand supporters if they are found to be involved in suspicious activities. “We have deployed security personnel to prevent any untoward incidents,” he said. “Security personnel from the Nepal Police, National Investigation Department and Armed Police Force have been mobilised.”
