Senior orthopedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Dr Govinda KC, has begun his 16th hunger strike in Ilam on Thursday. He had announced to stage another round of hunger strike if the government failed to endorse the Medical Education Bill in line with the agreement signed with him earlier.
He decided to start fast-unto-death after Education and Health Committee of the Legislature Parliament on Wednesday endorsed the report on Medical Education Bill against the agreement signed with him.
At a press conference organised before staging the hunger strike today, the anti-corruption crusader said the government has betrayed him.
“The Medical Education Bill should be endorsed as per the letter and spirit of the agreement at the earliest,” he demanded.

Dr KC’s other demands are arrest of the people involved in rape and murder of Nirmala Pant of Kanchanpur, file criminal case against those involved in destroying evidence, torturing innocent people, and opening fire on those who were protesting for justice.
Earlier in June, Dr KC had begun his 15th hunger strike at Karnali Academy of Health Sciences in Jumla. He was later brought to Kathmandu.
