Resham Lal Chaudhary, who was elected the MP from Kailali-1, will not get salary and perks while he is in custody, Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara said on Wednesday. Chaudhary, who is under investigation for his alleged role in 2015 Tikapur carnage, was sworn-in as a Lower House representative last week. After the oath ceremony, he had returned to Dillibazaar Prison, where he is being held in judicial custody.
According to Parliamentary Regulations 2075 (3) and Article 103 (6) of the Constitution, an MP who is in police custody on criminal charges will be barred from doing anything in his capacity, and they will be not be given the salary and service.
