The Kanchanpur-based rights activists have started a separate sit-in protest in front of the District Administration Office (DAO) in Mahendranagar from Monday to exert pressure on the government to arrest the culprits involved in the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant.

 The protesters said the separate sit-in was to show solidarity with the Pant family, who has been staging an indefinite sit-in outside the DAO since November 11, and to pressurise the government to investigate into the four-month old crime.

The members of the Citizen’s Struggle Committee staged the sit-in from 11am to 4pm with a black band on their head and posters of Nirmala held on their hands.  

The service seekers in the DAO were affected as they could not enter the office due to the sit-in.

The struggle committee announced the launch of protests for four days starting from Monday that includes a sit-in, torch rally and making a human chain.

We will announce further protests if the authorities fail to make public the murderers till Thursday, said Mina Bhandari, the coordinator of the struggle committee.

The 13-year-old school girl was found dead in a sugarcane field on July 27, a day after she went missing. Various probe committees were formed to investigate into the inhumane crime but the authorities have yet to arrest the culprits.  

Tarun Dal submits memorandum to PM

KHOTANG: Activists of Nepal Tarun Dal, the youth wing of the Nepali Congress, submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Monday, demanding the government to control the growing incidents of rape, corruption and price hikes among others. District chief of the organisation Bhishan Rai submitted the memorandum to PM Oli through the office of the Chief District Officer. The NC youth wing also demanded the authorities to arrest the culprits involved in the rape and murder of Nirmala Pant in Kanchanpur.
