Protests against the murder Nirmala Pant continued in various places of the county on Sunday as well.
While the Pant family has been staging an indefinite sit-in outside the District Administration Office (DAO) in Mahendranagar, Kanchanpur, since November 11, the Citizen Struggle Committee has announced fresh protest programmes demanding authorities to bring the culprits to justice.
Thirteen-year-old Pant was found murdered after a rape in Bhimdattanagar Municipality, Kanchanpur, on June 27. Police are still clueless about her murderers.
Mina Bhandari, coordinator of the committee, said on Sunday that they would stage a sit-in outside the DAO on Monday and Tuesday, organise a torch rally on Tuesday and make a human chain in Mahendranagar on Wednesday as part of their protest.
Meanwhile, the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) took out a protest rally in Mahendranagar on Sunday to protest the rape and murder of the teenager.
A huge number of students, woman rights activists, cadres of various political parties and general public attended the rally that later converged into a mass meeting.
The protesters chanted anti-government slogans by holding Nirmala’s poster.
Addressing the meeting, the CPN leaders blamed the government of protecting the criminals.
The CPN also organised demonstrations in Mangalsen, the district headquarters of Achham.
In Baglung, women staged demonstrations in the district headquarters demanding justice for Nirmala.
Around 200 women obstructed the vehicular movement by sleeping on the road.
“We took to the street as the government failed to provide justice to the innocent girl who was raped and murdered. The government authorities have been protecting the culprits involved in Nirmala’s murder,” said Shakuntala w, the district chairperson of Nepali Congress-affiliated Nepal Woman Association.
