Police arrested two persons for setting their own vehicle on fire to collect insurance money.

Dinesh Baruwal, 25, of Likhu Municipality-5, and Shambhu Karki, 48, of Manthali Municipality in Ramechhap district were arrested for setting fire on a micro bus (Ba 3 Kha 8074) at Masan Chowk along the Biratnagar-Biratchowk road section in Gramthan Municipality, Morang, on Tuesday.

Micro bus helper Baruwal had complained the police saying an unidentified group had set fire on their vehicle and also robbed of their mobile phones and cash.

Police later arrested Baruwal and upon interrogation, he admitted to setting fire on the vehicle. Morang DSP Ghanashyam Shrestha said Baruwal set fire on his vehicle to receive the insurance money as it was getting old and he was failing to pay the loan back.

DSP Shrestha also said driver Karki who suffered burn injuries in the plotted arson is receiving treatment at Nobel Hospital in Biratnagar.
