Students of Bishwonath Primary School at Talkot Rural Municipality-3 in Bajhang district have been forced to study in the open for the past four months after a landslide in August destroyed the school building.
Birkharaj Joshi, the school headmaster, said they have no other alternative but to teach the students under the landslide prone area as the authorities concerned fail to move the school to a safer location.
There are 83 students in the school. Teachers said they have to halt the classes when it rains or when it gets too windy. Many students have left the school already, they said.
Yagyaraj Rokaya, chairman of the school management committee, said the students have been facing a lot of problems as the toilets and drinking water taps were swept by the landslide.
“There is still a risk of landslide in the area,” said Rokaya.
Ward chairman Bharat Bohara said the ward office has been searching for a land plot to construct the school building. “We will start on the building construction soon,” Bohara said.
