A Canadian citizen died of altitude sickness after he was not rescued timely from Shey Guma in Upper Dolpa.
Randle Ferris Baker had gone to observe snow leopards at Shey Guma in She Phoksundo Rural Municipality when he suffered from altitude sickness. Baker was in region for the past five days. He died on Wednesday.
A helicopter was called for his rescue but did not arrive as it did not get flying permit on time.
Shey Gumba is situated at an altitude of 4,310 meter. Visitors in the area are in risk of altitude sickness due to extreme cold and lack of vegetation.
