The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Friday filed a corruption case at the Special Court against two doctors from Janakpur Zonal Hospital for allegedly issuing a false medical report to protect a child rape suspect.
Dr Bijaya Kumar Singh and Dr Rambha Goit face the charge of influencing the probe into a rape incident in which a 12-year-old girl was raped by her 23-year-old neighbour on August 24. The two doctors, who performed the medical exams of the girl on August 25, had mentioned in the report that her hymen was intact and there were no injuries to suggest that she had been raped.
Their lie was caught when the girl underwent a second medical test at the District Public Health Office, Siraha, on September 10. The new report mentions about the girl’s ruptured hymen and congested vagina, indicating that she had been raped.
Following the revelation, the Nepal Medical Council had suspended Dr Singh and Dr Goit on October 11.
“These doctors’ report had contradicted the statement of both victim and the rapist, who has already accepted the charge. The second medical test also confirmed it. So, we had suspended them,” said Dr. Dilip Sharma, the council’s registrar.
