Curfew re-imposed in Krishnanagar (Update)
The District Administration Office, Kapilvastu, re-imposed an indefinite curfew in the bordering town of Krishnanagar from 5 pm on Monday. Earlier in the day, the administration had lifted the curfew from 8 am in the morning till 5 pm this afternoon. The curfew was imposed on Sunday after tension flared up at a market place near Nepal-India border following a dispute over immersion of Goddess Durga idol.
A meeting of the district security committee decided to re-impose curfew. “The curfew was lifted for nine hours in order to facilitate the people to buy daily essentials and those who had already bought their tickets,” said DSP Ravi Rawal.
Krishnanagar has remained tense since Friday evening after some unidentified persons hurled stones at the procession while moving around the Durga idols in the town. The assailants threw stones from terraces of the houses near a mosque.
Chief District Officer Arjun Prasad Pokharel said the decision to continue curfew on Tuesday will be made after observing the situation tonight. The idols carried for a procession on Friday was immersed only at 7 pm on Sunday.

Curfew lifted for 4 hours in Krishnanagar
The Kapilvastu District Administration Office has lifted the curfew it had imposed in Krishnanagar for four hours on Monday.
Achyut Prasad Pudasaini, Chief at the District Police Office, Kapilvastu said that the curfew has been lifted from 8 am to 12 pm today.
The Kapilvastu District Administration Office had imposed a curfew in Krishnanagar for an indefinite period since 5 pm on Sunday after tension flared at a market place near the Nepal-India border over the immersion of Durga idols.
Chief District Office Arjun Pokharel said that the curfew was lifted after the situation gradually turned normal.
He said that a meeting to be held this afternoon would decide whether to lift the curfew completely or continue with it.
The District Administration Office had clamped curfew in Semara Village in east, Sirsihawa Chok in west, Badhaya Pokharai area in north and Dasgaja area in south.
Krishnanagar had remained tense since Friday evening after some unidentified persons hurled stones at the procession while moving around the Durga idols in the town. The assailants threw stones from terraces of the houses near a mosque. The local administration and the disputing groups of the locals reached an agreement on Saturday evening to arrest the assailants involved in hurling stones.
However, the tension flared again on Sunday as the Hindu and Muslim communities were at odds over the route to move around the idols for immersion.
