Six persons were killed and 17 others injured when a microbus collided with a truck near the Muguwa stream along the East-West Highway in Banke district on Saturday.
Police said over-speeding was the cause behind the fatal crash. The crowded and speeding microbus, en route to Nepalgunj from Tulsipur, collided with the truck while passing another truck that was overturned on the roadside.
Police identified the deceased as Sugani Chaudhary, Tulsi Rwawat, Basanti Chaudhary and Narayani Shrees of Tulsipur Sub-metropolis in Dang district and Drona Budhathoki of Sharada Municipality in Salyan district. Identity of a woman killed in the crash is yet to be ascertained. Two victims died on the spot while four others succumbed to injuries at Kohalpur Teaching Hospital.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ramesh Bahadur Singh said the injured are receiving treatment at Kohalpur Teaching Hospital. The victims sustained serious head injuries in the incident, hospital source said.
