The only Nepal-China road link has been cut off after the rain-swollen Gerkhu stream destroyed the bridge on Sunday early morning. The security personnel and employees of the Galchhi-Mailung-Syaphrebesi-Rasuwagadhi Road Project helped around 100 vehicles cross the steam tugging them by excavators on Monday. “We are working to make a diversion across the stream. Transportation will resume smoothly from Tuesday,” said Superintendent of Police Basanta Bahadur Kunwar.
The road project is building a diversion using hume pipes and gabion wires. Hundreds of vehicles, including those carrying goods from Rasuwagadhi customs point, have been stranded after the destruction of the bridge constructed about four decades ago.
