According to the expenditure details, pasted on the notice board of the Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, the provincial government spent Rs 27.64 million in the run-up to and during Indian prime minister’s visit to Janakpur on May 11.
Padam Pokharel, the spokesperson of Office of Chief Minister and Council of Ministers, said the federal government had already reimbursed the fund to the provincial government.
The provincial government had been facing criticism for not disclosing the spending details from the opposition, Nepali Congress. The NC MPs had even obstructed the Provincial Assembly proceedings accusing
the provincial government of committing financial irregularities during Modi’s visit.
The Indian prime minister had started his two-day Nepal visit from Janakpur by offering prayers at
the Ram Janaki Temple and attending a civic reception hosted in his honour at Rangabhoomi Maidan.
