The government on Friday presented the National Medical Education Bill in the Parliament.
Minister for Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokharel presented the Bill at the parliament which was earlier stalled after failing to garner consensus.
The earlier Bill, scheduled to be presented on July 6, could not be presented at the House following Dr Govinda KC’s hunger strike against some of the provisions included in the bill.
The government and Dr KC forged an agreement late on Thursday night paving the way for the government to present the Bill at the House of Representatives for discussion. The main opposition, Nepali Congress (NC), had also demanded that unless the bill includes the demands raised by Dr KC, they would not let the government to present the bill.
At today’s meet, NC lawmakers briefly obstructed the House proceedings demanding the agreement signed by the government with Dr KC be made available to them. However, the House proceedings resumed after the opposition lawmakers received copies of the agreement.
