A three-member team including DIG Surendra Bikram Shah, SP Kedar Rajaure and DSP Chudamani Budhathoki had reached Jumla-based Karnali Academy of Health Sciences (KAHS) to probe the clash between locals, doctors and security personnel while a government team forcefully took Dr KC, who had been staging fast-unto-death since June 30, to Kathmandu.
It has been learnt that the police team returned without meeting the hospital staffers, civil society members, locals and journalists.
Doctors and staffers working at the hospital have been demanding the government carry out a fair investigation into the incident and take stern action against the guilty.
Civil Society Chairman Raj Bahadur Mahat suspected that the police probe team might have returned to hide the fact that police personnel had resorted to baton charging and gunfire inside a sensitive area like hospital.
“We only heard that the probe team had arrived at Jumla,” said Mahat, “They did not meet us. We do not know the purpose of their visit and who they met.”
Likewise, KAHS administration also informed that no probe team had visited the hospital.
More than two dozen doctors, students and three police personnel were injured in the incident after police resorted to baton-charge on the premises of the hospital.
A policeman was seriously injured after he received a bullet in his chest. He is undergoing treatment at a hospital in Kathmandu.
