Police briefly detained 25 students affiliated to Nepali Congress and Naya Shakti Party, Nepal after while demonstrating outside the entrance of the State Parliament on Thursday.
Police briefly detained 25 students affiliated to Nepali Congress and Naya Shakti Party, Nepal after while demonstrating outside the entrance of the State Parliament on Thursday.
Police said the demonstrators were detained for demonstrating in prohibitory zone.
The students had assembled outside the State Parliament building to protest the arrival of Prime Minister KP Oli.
The demonstration was organised to press the Oli government to address the demands of Dr Govinda KC.
A senior orthopaedic surgeon at the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu, Dr KC was staging indefinite hunger strike in Jumla district for the past 20 days, pressing for reforms in medical education sector of the country. He was forcibly
airlifted to Kathmandu on Thursday at the instruction of the government.
This is the 15th hunger strike of Dr KC since 2012. He has repeatedly resorted to what he calls his ‘Satyagraha’ to improve the country’s medical education sector and widen health care access to all parts of the country, and every successive governments have promised to address his demands and ignored them.
