Police have arrested three individuals on charge of running a betting racket from Kathmandu Metropolitan City-15 on Tuesday.
Prakat Maharjan, 22, a native of Mahepi, currently residing in Balaju, Rejin Maharjan, 22, of Ramghat, and Sujen Shahi, 25, of Chagal, were arrested for operating a gambling racket during the latest match between Brazil and Mexico in the ongoing Fifa World Cup.
Police have recovered Rs 699,000 from the arrestees. According to the police, the arrested persons would collect money from various individuals and would take commissions from the winners.
The arrested trio will be tried under Gambling Act 2019, informed police.
Though gambling is illegal in Nepal, illegal bets have been going unchecked during the FIFA World Cup.
