District Administration Jumla on Monday wrote a letter to Karnali Academy of Health Sciences directing it to do everything possible for the treatment of Dr Govinda KC after the latter’s health started deteriorating. Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH), Dr KC has been staging an indefinite fast since Saturday demanding reforms in the medical education.
After receiving the letter from the administration, the doctors attending on him said it would not be possible to treat Dr KC in the covered hall. Police detained Dr KC and kept him at the deserted looking hall that has no water, electricity and toilet facility.
Dr Prabin Giri said they have been facing difficulty in administering treatment to Dr KC because the hall is filthy and in a pathetic condition. Dr KC’s health has been worsening after he began his hunger strike in his detention.
“It’s not possible to give him medical attention in such a filthy hall where it smells bad because of pee and faeces,” said Dr Giri. “His treatment is only possible in the hospital. But the administration has not allowed us to take him to the hospital.”
