Police have arrested a shaman who tortured a woman in the pretext of chasing away evil spirits troubling the victim.
According to the police, shaman Rabindra Dhami of Ragani, Okhaldhunga had cast a hot spatula on the face of Sarita Darji, 26, of Duragaun in Likhu Tamakoshi Rural Municipality-1 and fled after the latter became unconscious. Dhami had also hit Darji with common nettle (Sisnu) during the process.
Police Inspector Rajendra Kumar Thapa said Dhami was arrested under the Witchcraft Act following a complaint by Darji.
The police have already arrested three others in connection to the incident.
