District Court, Taplejung has sentenced a man to 3 year in prison and Rs 50,000 fine on charges of marital rape.

A single bench of Judge Kripasur Karki on Wednesday delivered the verdict on a case that was registered at the police on July 19, 2014 and was subjudice at the court since September 15, 2014 after the accused absconded following the complaint.

The case was reopened on February 9, 2018 two years after the first hearing was scheduled.

In her complaint, the victim had stated that her husband, a resident of Fuling Municipality, married another woman and fled and after sometime when the husband returned back home, he raped her.
