A meeting of the House of Representatives held this afternoon endorsed the Regulations with majority votes. According to the new regulations, lawmakers arrested on criminal charge will not be suspended.
The word suspension will not be kept in the regulations after the lawmakers who had tabled an amendment proposal to suspend the lawmakers withdrew their proposal.
This regulations state that lawmakers arrested on the criminal charge will remain the Member of Parliament.
Janamorcha lawmaker Durga Paudel and Nepal Workers and Peasants Party lawmaker Prem Suwal had voted in favour of suspension of lawmakers.
The regulations have not been able to move ahead due to a dispute between the ruling and opposition parties.
The regulations on the House of Representatives, which was scheduled to be tabled for approval on Monday, was withdrawn from the House agenda in the last moment after the main opposition Nepali Congress threatened to obstruct the business if it was put to the vote without consensus.
The ruling and opposition parties were at odds over whether or not to suspend a lawmaker facing judicial custody and increase the number of parliamentary committees.
The NC and Madhesi parties were against suspending Member of Parliament who are on judicial custody.
