Rhino pair to be gifted to China prior PM’s visit

Minister for Forest and Environment Shakti Bahadur Basnet and ministry officials briefed the Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Yu Hong saying that all necessary preparation were made to gift the endangered pachyderm to China.
Ministry’s Bio Diversity and Environment Division Chief Dr Maheshwor Dhakal informed envoy Yu that the rhinos can be gifted to China prior to PM Oli’s official visit.
“We have informed them (Chinese side) that all preparations have been made,” said Dhakal, “The Chinese side will discuss the matter with their respective ministry and inform us about the date.”
The rhinos will be transported in a wooden box in a Chinese airplane.
Earlier, Nepal had announced to gift a pair of Rhinos to China in line with the CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora) Act that allows a nation to gift one pair of animal in a year.
Both the rhinos, aged between one-and-a-half year and two, are being kept at Buma in Sauraha, Chitwan, informed Chitwan National Park information officer Nurendra Aryal.
