Top leaders echo Buddha’s teachings
The President, the Vice-President, the Prime Minister and political party leaders reiterated the message of peace, non-violence, and community harmony on Monday, the 2,562th birth anniversary of Gautam Buddha.

Nepal observes Buddha Jayanti on full moon day (Baishakh Sukla Purnima) in the month of Baishakh, the first month of the year according to Bikram Samvat calendar.
Devotees offered prayers, chanted hymns and did religious rituals at Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha, Lumbini, and other monasteries in the country.
Various institutions, religious groups and private entities observed Buddha Jayanti across the country at special events.
In her wishes, President Bidya Devi Bhandari urged citizens to practice the tenets of Buddhism to spread unity, tolerance and goodwill to help spur social development and lasting peace.
In his message, Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun said. “The importance of Buddha’s teachings of peace and non-violence has further increased in the present world.”
Buddha’s message and teachings are still relevant said Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. “Gautam Buddha showed the path to non-violence, harmony and human welfare. He remains a symbol of pride for all Nepalis. He made a huge contribution to human welfare.”
This special day should inspire all citizens to move ahead by internalising the spirit of global fraternity of Buddhist religion, he said.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba wished for the emancipation of citizens from all injustices, suppression, victimization, discrimination, and peace would prevail in the country by following the teachings of the Lord Buddha.

“Nepali people hope for economic prosperity. Overall development of the country is not possible without sustainable peace,” he said.
The top leaders also extended their wishes to the Kirant community on the occasion of Ubhauli festival.
PM Oli said the Kirant community has a vibrant heritage, values and culture. The festival is important as it carries great cultural and social significance in the country.
He wished good health, long-life, peace and prosperity to all the Kirant brothers and sisters living in Nepal and elsewhere in the world.
