A woman died when she was attacked by an elephant from Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve in Saptari district on Tuesday morning.
Durga Devi Yadav, 45, was asleep at her home in Kanchanrup Municipality-11 when the elephant attacked her. Saptari police chief SP Mukesh Kumar Singh informed Yadav died on the spot. The wild tusker also destroyed her home.
Officer Shyam Kumar Sah at the wildlife reserve said they will provide Rs 50,000 compensation to deceased Yadav’s family.
Wild elephants have killed 17 in Saptari, Sunsari and Udaypur in the past six years.
