District Administration Office, Bardiya, has recommended that the Ministry of Home Affairs take action against 450 people who acquired Nepali citizenship by providing false details.

Chief District Officer Narayan Prasad Bhattarai said the DAO has already handed over the illegally obtained citizenship certificates to the ministry for further investigation.

“One hundred and twenty-five people had acquired Nepali citizenship through false details from Rajapur Bazaar alone. Most of them are Indian nationals who run various businesses in Rajapur,” he said.

The DAO had launched an inquiry into the allegations that many non-bona fide citizens living in Gulariya and Rajapur had obtained Nepali citizenship by faking their details.

“The ministry has already scrapped the citizenship of six persons.

The authenticity of other citizenships is currently under investigation,” CDO Bhattarai said.

The DAO has recommended stern action against those found guilty of faking their details to gain Nepali citizenship.
