According to Sharma, leader Khadka was undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospital in New Delhi. In a twitter post, Sharma informed about Khadka’s demise and wished for peace to the departed soul and expressed his condolences to bereaved family.
Khadka was admitted to Kathmandu-based Norvic Hospital on February 16 following a heart attack and later taken to Apollo Hospital in New Delhi on February 18.
Known as one of the influential leaders of NC, Khadka had held numerous high-ranking positions, including Home Minister and Local Development Minister.
Khadka had lived an exiled life in India with founding leader of Nepali Congress BP Koirala.
In 2012, the Supreme Court had convicted Khadka for amassing wealth through corruption and sentenced him to 18 months in prison and slapped a fine of Rs 9.47 million along with asset forfeiture worth the same amount.
A week after the conviction, Khadka had surrendered before the Kathmandu District Court on August 20, 2012.
