Lawmakers from various political parties expressed their concern over ‘Final Report on the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly Elections’ issued recently by the European Union (EU) Election Observation Mission (EOM) to Nepal in a meeting of the House of Representatives on Monday.

Taking special time in the meeting today, they said the report was itself an interference with a sovereign nation.

CPN-UML lawmaker Bhim Rawal expressed his concern over the report citing that it had attacked on the provision of the constitution built on the aspirations of Nepali people. "This sort of interference is unbearable for any country. Nepal is such country that strongly believes in democracy," he said, adding, "Nepal wants to maintain good relations in the international forums as per its policies of international relations and the UN Charter."

According to him, Nepal's constitution was not less important than any country's in view of the proportional inclusiveness. Nepal's neighours are welcomed to assist the country in difficulty, but it is wrong to hurt the national sovereignty.

Likewise, Devendra Poudel of the CPN (Maoist Centre) said Nepal is a sovereign nation and no foreign meddling in internal affairs is tolerated. The EU's election observation report is insulting one.

Rastriya Janata Party Nepal's Laxmanlal Karna, however, was of the view of making correction if weaknesses were there in the policy of proportional inclusiveness and be implemented accordingly. People from Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim and other marginalized communities are still in discriminations.

Sanghiya Samajwadi Forum Nepal lawmaker Rajendra Shrestha said Nepal does not accept foreign meddling. Nepal's constitution, republic and federalism are the steps ahead from the previous system, he argued.

Nepal has entered a new phase after the promulgation of the constitution, said Nepali Congress' Pradip Giri, adding that all sorts of challenges emerging on implementation of the constitution should be faced collectively.

Similarly, CPN (MC)’s Sashi Shrestha underscored the need for strict implementation of civil and criminal laws to control the violence against women. Sudan Kirati from the same party drew the government's attention towards the hassles Nepalis were facing on border.

UML's Birodh Khatiwada opined that the parliament needs to discuss the issues relating to Pakistani Prime Minister's visit to Nepal. RSS
