Mahara elected House Speaker unopposed

A Parliament meeting held this afternoon elected Mahara as the House Speaker unopposed as he was the only candidate to file nomination for the post.
Though Mahara was elected as the House Speaker unopposed on Friday, the official announcement was made on Saturday.
Senior-most member of the Parliament Mahantha Thakur during the meeting announced that Mahara has been elected as the House Speaker unopposed.
CPN-UML leader Subash Chandra Nembang had proposed Mahara’s candidacy while CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Dev Gurung seconded the proposal.
The main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) did not field its candidate for the post.
Mahara was elected as the federal parliament member from Dang-2 in the recently concluded federal parliament election.
He will be sworn in as the House Speaker tomorrow.
