The main opposition Nepali Congress has decided not to field any candidate for the post of Speaker of the House of Representatives.
NC spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma, talking to RSS, informed that the party did not file candidacy for the post in the belief that the House Speaker’s reasonable personality and balanced behaviour would lift the parliament and parliamentary system.
Abstaining from running for the coveted post means to help pick a new Speaker unanimously, he said.
Earlier today, CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara filed his candidacy for the post. His candidacy has been proposed by CPN-UML leader Subas Chandra Nembang and seconded by CPN (MC) leader Dev Gurung.
