STUDY: 14 pc children in Province 2 malnourished
A study has revealed that 14 percent of children in Province 2 are suffering from severe malnutrition, with Siraha district having the highest number of undernourished children.A study has revealed that 14 percent of children in Province 2 are suffering from severe malnutrition, with Siraha district having the highest number of undernourished children.
According to the report of the Nepal Demographic and Health Survey, the children from rural and economically backward societies in Siraha, Saptari, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat, Bara and Parsa districts are the ones suffering from malnutrition.
District Health Officer of Siraha Dr Chumanlal Das said Integrated Management of Acute Malnutrition (IMAM) programme has been conducted in the district to cure malnutrition-affected children.
According to the National Census of 2011, there are 3.2 million children below five years. Of them, around 91, 000 children are suffering from severe malnutrition and 430,000 children are suffering from mild-malnutrition in the country.
