The government on Friday failed to recommend names for nomination to the National Assembly (NA).The government on Friday failed to recommend names for nomination to the National Assembly (NA).
Minister for Law Yagya Bahadur Thapa said the names to be recommended for nomination to NA were not tabled at today's Cabinet meeting. “The meeting has given the responsibility to Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba to recommend three names for nomination to NA,” said Thapa.
According to the Article 86, 2 (B) of the constitution, the government can nominate three members to the Upper House.
According to sources at PM’s residence in Baluwatar, PM Deuba is preparing to recommend Gopal Basnet, Krishna Paudel and Chandani Joshi for nomination to the Upper House. The recommended names will be forwarded to President Bidhya Bhandari for nomination.
The National Assembly will get full shape after the president nominates the three members.
Of the three persons tipped to be recommended for nomination to NA, two are active members of the Nepali Congress. Joshi is a social and moral supporter of Nepali Congress.
Basnet is the old Nepali Congress leader from Jhapa. He is the former secretary of district working committee. He is close to Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Pauel, a permanent resident of Bhirkot Municipality-1 of Syangja district, is the Chief Secretary of Nepali Congress.
He was picked as the Chief Secretary of the party central office after Deuba was elected to the post of party President.
Prior to his appointment as Chief Secretary, he was affiliated to Nepali Congress aligned Teachers’ Association and Trade Union.
