The main opposition CPN-UML, one of the partners of the left alliance, has said that the new government will reconsider the decisions that are being taken by the incumbent government.

CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharman Oli, issuing a press statement on Thursday, said that the decisions taken by the caretaker government will have a long-term effect in the economy and administration of the nation hence the next government under the left alliance will dismiss all the decisions made by the incumbent government.

“The current government is hell bent on disturbing the economy and state mechanisms of the nation,” read the statement, “We warn the government to stop all unjustifiable and immoral activities and draw the attention of all not to be a part of the decisions that would harm the nation in the long run.”

UML's statement pointing against the Nepali Congress-led government comes a day after the ruling party decided to lower the age ceiling for the social security allowance, bringing it down from 70 to 65 years.

At present, senior citizens above 70 years are entitled to receive Rs 2,000 in monthly social security allowance. According to the census 2011, there are around 2.1 million people aged 60 or above in the country.

"When we tried to introduce the social security allowance in the past, it was the NC that denounced our attempt. But now NC itself has taken up the issue by reducing the age limit for availing the benefit. NC did not take up this step out of respect for elderly or to increase the horizon of social security. The decision was taken for cheap publicity in an irresponsible manner," said the statement.

It is unclear how this decision will be implemented that is nowhere in the government's annual programmes and policies or budget. This decision is taken with an intention to misuse the state coffers, the UML said.

Furthermore, the UML has also criticised the Cabinet decision to doll out additional Rs 100,000 to the victims of earthquake and floods which is set to increase the government liability by Rs 90 billion. UML criticised NC for making political intervention in National Reconstruction Authority and giving less priority to NRA works by deputing NRA staffers in election process. The party has said that the government making such decisions without any evaluations, setting criteria and adhering to timeline is motivated by its agenda of popularity.
