An eight-year-old girl was apparently murdered after rape in Khotang on Wednesday afternoon.

It has been learnt that the girl, a permanent resident of Pathe, Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-10, was raped and murdered by her 16-year-old cousin brother.

She was found dead in a cardamom field covered with leaves at around 11 pm yesterday, police informed.

According to DSP Lok Darshan Thapa, the culprit was arrested on Thursday and investigation started.

Sub-Inspector Manoj Yadav of the District Police Office, Khotang, said that the boy has confessed to the crime.
