NA poll: Province 7 NC women leaders make a pitch for Arzoo
A group of Nepali Congress (NC) women leaders from Province 7 have demanded that Arzoo Deuba be picked as a party candidate in the National Assembly (NA) election.A group of Nepali Congress (NC) women leaders from Province 7 have demanded that Arzoo Deuba be picked as a party candidate in the National Assembly (NA) election. Arzoo, spouse of Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba, had lost the elections to the House of Representatives (HoR) from Kailali-5.
Issuing a statement on Monday, NC’s provincial lawmakers Dibayashwori Shah, Uma Devi Badi, Nanda Bam and Ambika Kumari Thapa have demanded that Arzoo be selected as a candidate to boost the number of women representing the province.
The demand comes at a time when many party leaders are suggesting against
picking contestants who have lost in the recent federal parliament and provincial assembly polls for the NA election.
Leaders had floated such a proposal in the recent CWC meeting, but the party did not make any official decision on the matter.
The demand of women leaders has already drawn criticisms in the social media from NC sympathisers. As there has not been any official decision yet, leaders say, the party leadership could pick any leaders including those defeated in elections as NA candidates.
According to reports coming in from Kailali, even party leaders and candidates did not support Arzoo, leading to her defeat in the HoR polls. She was appointed lawmaker in
the CA elections under the PR category.
