Talking to the Post over phone, CEC Yadav confirmed that PM Deuba has agreed to hold the Upper House election on February 8.
However, the official decision regarding the election date will be taken by Cabinet, Yadav said.
According to the Election Commission, it was unable to announce results of House of Representatives elections under Proportional Representation category in the absence of Upper House due to the constitutional provision.
Although the elections to the House of Representatives and Provincial Assembly were conducted successfully, the fate of a new government was in oblivion due to cross-party differences over the National Assembly election.
The way for the election to Upper House was paved after President Bidya Devi Bhandari authenticated the ordinance related to the NA election on December 30.
