Leader Koirala urges Deuba to summon NC central meeting
Nepali Congress (NC) central member Shekhar Koirala has demanded that party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba summon a central working committee meeting at the earliest to hold discussions on the formation of National Assembly and review the party’s performance in the recently held elections.Nepali Congress (NC) central member Shekhar Koirala has demanded that party President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba summon a central working committee meeting at the earliest to hold discussions on the formation of National Assembly and review the party’s performance in the recently held elections.
At a press meet organised at his residence in Biratnagar on Friday, leader Koirala said that Prime Minister Deuba should resign only after President Bidya Devi Bhandari authenticates the ordinance regarding the National Assembly. “If the Prime Minister resigns before the authentication of the ordinance then the new government will amend the single transferable vote system which will endanger the proportional inclusiveness,” said Koirala.
Likewise, leader Koirala said that he will initiate a signature campaign to exert pressure for calling the central working committee meeting if the party president fails to do so within a week or 10 days.
“The meeting should review the party’s performance in the elections and find out rebel leaders within the party and take action against them,” said Koirala, “The way Nepali Congress is heading after the election will only cause a negative effect on national interest.”
Stressing the need to develop organisational structure of the party in every province, he said the party should come up with concrete plans to reach out to its grassroots levels.
On a query, leader Koirala said NC would play the role of a strong opposition for the next five years, while remaining focused on consolidating its organisational base.
