The top leaders of left alliance formed before the parliamentary and federal elections also discussed the formation of National Assembly which is necessary to give full shape to the Federal Parliament for power transfer, informed Dahal’s secretariat.
It has been learnt that the duo also discussed the possible unification of the two parties as agreed earlier. The parties jointly contested in the recently concluded Federal Parliament and Provincial Assembly elections by forming a left alliance. During the election campaigns, the party in their common election manifesto had also announced that they would elevate the alliance as a single party after election.
At today’s discussion, both the leaders hailed the successful completion of the polls and expressed satisfaction for getting expected result.
The left alliance turned successful for the parties as it was able to make a clean sweep in first-past-the-post (FPTP) voting and is leading in proportional representation category. The CPN-UML won 80 seats while Maoist Centre got 36 in the 165-member House of Representatives. The Nepali Congress (NC), which became the largest party in the 2013 Constituent Assembly, had to settle for just 23 seats in the FPTP category.
The left alliance is leading under PR category too.
It is learnt that the CPN-UML has demanded resignation of Prime Minister and NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba to pave way for the formation of a new government. But PM Deuba has clearly stated that he would not resign until the election of National Assembly.
