Former Nepal Police DIG and CPN-UML candidate Nawaraj Silwal has been elected to Federal Parliament from Lalitpur-1. He defeated his closest rival Udaya Shumsher Rana of Nepali Congress (NC) by a margin of 6217 votes.
Silwal secured 26946 votes against Rana’s 20729 votes. Rana, who was elected to parliament and Constituent Assembly from Lalitpur-1 in 2013, is incumbent State Minister for Finance.
Silwal, who was eying the top post of Nepal Police, tendered his resignation on September 12 after the Supreme Court scrapped his writ that challenged the appointment of Prakash Aryal to the post of Inspector General of Police.
