Elections held in free, fair and transparent manner: Japan

Issuing a statement on Friday, the Kathmandu-based Japanese Embassy said: "Japan welcomes the voting at the elections of the House of Representatives and Provincial Assemblies in Nepal on December 7th in a generally peaceful manner without major confusion."
In the elections, Japan had deployed an election observer mission composed of 10 members, led by its Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs Iwao HORII and the mission visited several polling stations in the Kathmandu Valley.
Based on its observation, Japan has said the elections were held in a 'free, fair and transparent' manner.
Furthermore, the statement said that Japan expects that outcome of the elections will be determined in accordance with an appropriate and fair process.
"We also expect that political processes after the elections will proceed smoothly and will continue to support Nepal’s efforts for further consolidating its democracy," read the statement.
