Voting in Olangchungola, a remote village in eastern mountain district Taplejung, has almost been completed. But the booth has not been closed yet as the political parties and election officers are waiting for two voters who had gone to graze yaks in the pasture.

The village lies in Faktalung Rural Municipality. Faktalung has 1361 eligible voters.

Ninety-four voters present in the village have already cast their votes.

According to Faktalung spokesperson and Olangchungola ward member Cheten Walung, the booth will be closed after Tenzing Sherpa and Dawa Sherpa cast their votes.

“We would not have waited in this freezing place if we had not expected the duo to arrive and cast their votes,” said Cheten, adding, “They have gone to Mauwatar to bring back yaks. I do not understand why they are late.”

Officials present at the election centers have no option but to wait for the two voters as no contact could be made with them due to lack of communication the remote mountain district.

In Olangchungola, 131 voters had cast ballots in the recently held local level elections. If Tenzing and Dawa show up today to cast their votes, the number of voter turnout would still be 35 less than the local polls.

Election officers informed that they would wait for remaining voters till 5 pm.
