A Cabinet meeting on Friday made the decision to build the storage type project under Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) model.
Earlier on November 13, the government had scrapped the deal to construct the project signed with China’s Gezhouba Group Corporation (CGGC) citing ‘instructions issued by parliamentary committees’ in September. The fate of the 1,200-megawatt project had plunged into uncertainty after the government scrapped the deal with the Chinese company.
“The Cabinet had decided to authorise the Nepal Electricity Authority to build the Budhi Gandaki Hydropower Project under Engineering, Procurement and Construction model,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Minister Kamal Thapa, at a press meet on Friday.
He said the national-pride project would be constructed with domestic investment and by employing domestic technology.
