Rukum
Farmers at Mahat Village of Bhume Rural Municipality-6 in Rukum district have continued to rely on traditional maize storage methods to protect their precious crop from pests and diseases.
Despite new technologies invented for storage, farmers in the village rely upon nature to protect their crop. They take out the maize cover and hang it under the open sky. Such procedure will help the crop receive necessary water and sunlight.
"This will protect the maize from pests and the flour from such maize is also rich in taste," said ward chairman Dev Bahadur Buda.
Maize is usually stored in such way for around three months after harvesting it on September to November.
