Banda hits life in Rolpa
A banda enforced by the Netra Bikram Chand-led Communist Party of Nepal affected normal life in Rolpa district on Monday. Transportation came to a halt while market places and educational institutions remained closed due to the banda. The banda had its effect in the district as the protesters did not take to the street. Police said the CPN activists were found warning local people over the phone to enforce banda.
CPN district in-charge Dal Bahadur Khatri and secretary Santosh Subedi were arrested. On Monday, police arrested another CPN activist Dhan Bahadur Khatri from Rija
village. The security agencies have stepped up surveillance in the wake of the growing anti-election activities in the district.
Rolpa, along with 31 others districts, goes to the first phase of federal and provincial elections on November 26.
On Sunday, an unidentified group fired shots targeting election publicity team of CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Barshaman Pun, the left alliance candidate for federal parliament from Rolpa, at Duikholi Rural Muncipality-3. A day earlier, Pun’s vehicle was ambushed at Madi Rural Municipality-1.
Police have launched an investigation into the arrest of two youths who were held with weapon on Wednesday. Shyam Bahadur Gharti Magar and Ram Singh Gharti Magar of Madi-3 were arrested in possession of a pistol from a Kathmandu-bound bus. The district court remanded the duo to a 15-day judicial custody to carry out investigation.

TAPLEJUNG: Police on Monday detained eight CPN leaders in Taplejung district for their possible involvement in disrupting the upcoming elections. Mechi zonal bureau member Sagar Limbu, among others, was arrested on charge of carrying out anti-election activities, said police. Likewise, three CPN activists were also detained in Dhading on similar charges. (PR)
