Speaking at the Global Bone Marrow Transplantation Conference held in Kathmandu, experts from many countries including America, Singapore, Sri Lanka and India, said that developing such protocol would serve the need of the patients of blood cancer and other blood-related ailments.
In the conference held by Civil Service Hospital of the government and Illinois University, experts from South Asia including Nepal had expressed their concern on the increasing number of patients on various blood-related diseases. They had said that people from this region struggle for treatment and drugs that has been hitting on their longevity.
"Theoretical knowledge apart, there is a whole different practical aspects on treating patients in this region," said Senior Hematologist Dr Vikram Mathews of Christian Medical College, Vellore, India. "Here all types of blood-related treatment are treated by a single hematologist. The case is different in other developed countries."
Dr J B Thapa, Senior Pathologist of Nepal, inaugurating the event said it is commendable that Nepal has made a big stride in making bone marrow transplantation accessible to a majority of the needy people in the country.
Various papers by experts from Singapore and Nepal were presented at the event.
