Nepali Congress has included business tycoon Binod Chaudhary in the party's closed list of proportional representation candidates. Chaudhary has been The party has be inducted in the list under Madhesi category.

Chaudhary, who is Nepal’s only businessperson to be named in the Forbes billionaire’s list, was the Member of Parliament from the CPN-UML and was elected a member of the first Constituent Assembly (CA) under the PR category by UML in 2008.

Personal Aide to NC General Secretary Sashank Koirala, Bharat Tiwari informed that Chaudhary has been nominated as the number one candidate of the party under the PR category for the upcoming polls from Madhesi quota.

Businessman Chaudhary is running Chaudhary Udhyog Gram in Nawalparasi Constituency-1 from where leader Koirala is contesting the upcoming elections. There are about 1,900 workers currently employed in Chaudhary’s company there.

According to sources, former Nepali Ambassador to India Deep Kumar Upadhayay played a crucial role in roping in the business tycoon in the party as per the request of NC General Secretary Koirala. NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba is learnt to have seconded the move immediately.

Meanwhile, the UML had urged Chaudhary to contest elections against Koirala in the constituency. However, Chaudhary had denied the party’s request citing that he did not want to damage 70-year-old long familial relations with the Koiralas.

NC Nawalparasi President Bishnu Lamichhane, talking to the Post, said that Chaudhary has been roped in and given the number one position in the PR list as per the need of the party.
