The 108th birth anniversary of the Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota is being celebrated by organising various programmes in honour of the late poet on Thursday.

The Nepali literary community observes the birth anniversary of Mahakavi Devkota as the Laxmi Jayanti on the day of Laxmipuja, on the third day of Tihar festival, every year.

Literary community in Hetauda in association with Nawalpur, Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan-11-based Yug Prakash Club and Sahitya Sangam Makwanpur, marked the day by awarding the Laxmi Smriti Sahityik Puraskar to litterateur Sambha Dhakal. The award carries a purse of Rs 10,000.

Senior litterateur Tulsi Thapa handed over the award to Dhakal amid a special function organised at the premises of Tribhuvan Secondary School in Hetauda-11.

Likewise, a morning rally was also organised by local litterateurs to mark the day.
